Tie Pin and Tie Clip

Tie Pin: tie bar, tie stick pin, tie tack

A Tie Pin is a neckwear-controlling accessory that fixes the tie directly to the shirt.  The pins are made of metal (gold, silver) and sometimes decorated with crystals (like Swarovski Crystal) and even precious gems and pearls.
If you pay attention to the smallest details in your suit that give a refined look, you will definitely like to wear a tie pin.
There are several types of tie pins on the market. You can choose from:

  • the tie bar (also known as a tie slide), an elongated bar that attaches the tie to the shirt;
  • the tie stick pin, which features an adornment with a jeweled or decorated head on a thin pin worn in a necktie;
  • the tie tack is a small, button-like adornment which is made up of two different parts: the pin (the decorative part) and the back (or the base) with a chain attached to it.

Some tie clips are custom-designed to feature a company or club's logo, or a represent some other objects wearer's interest.
How to wear a tie pin?
Tie clips are simply clipped to the side of the tie along with a chain and stem which are placed through the buttonhole of a dress shirt for anchoring. It should always be shorter than three-quarters of the tie's width. If it's not, either get a smaller pin or get a wider tie. A tie clip placed approximately two-thirds of the way down the front of a necktie can keep it secured through most situations.
Tie tacks attach to the tie with the base pin sticking through the tie and secured in the back with a small back pin. The tie stick pin attaches with the entire pin part hidden beneath the material and only the top adornment and bottom pin stopper are visible.
Tie stick pins penetrate the fabric of the tie in order to keep it securely fastened. Tie pins are usually attached to the upper right side of the tie. If you are wearing a jacket, place the pin about two inches above the top button of the jacket. If you aren't wearing a jacket, attach the pin a little bit lower, but keep it in the top third of the tie. Another option that works well for ties tucked in sweaters with V-neck, is to sport the pin in the center of the knot of the tie.
All the kinds of tie pins really serve a very important function as being decorative. They are adding spice to your appearance as well as holding the tie in its place at all times, thou they do the kind of damage to the often expensive materials used in ties.
Wear it often and proudly.
